Does a dishwasher use less water then washing dishes by hands?

If it is then should the dishwasher be full or something?Does a dishwasher use less water then washing dishes by hands?
Yes, the dishwasher should be full for it to use less water. If you don't use many dishes, washing by hand (and turning the water off between rinsing dishes) can use less water.

In my family of 4, using the dishwasher would use less water if it weren't such a piece of junk that requires being run 3 times to clean a load, haha.Does a dishwasher use less water then washing dishes by hands?
Yes, and yes. But don't pack it full - water should be able to circulate easily around the dishes.
Yes your dishwasher uses less water than doing them by hand. You should always run it fairly full. If it's not full then you are wasting water by running it.
I didn't think so but my water company bill says yes.
